Everything you need to know about this year’s Gala
In May 2018, New York’s Metropolitan Museum Of Art will throw open its doors and lay down its red carpet for the 2018 MET Gala – but what’s it all about?
Here’s what you need to know about the most glamorous event on the annual fashion calendar…
1. 2018’s theme is set to be the most controversial yet It’s official, this theme has been revealed, and it is going to cause controversy, because it’s all about religion. Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination will create a dialogue between fashion and the masterworks of religious art. Just imagine what Beyonce and Madonna will wear, though to be fair, Madonna has been nailing the religious-inspired looks since the 80s.
Many designers have had religious nods in their recent collections, from Dolce & Gabbana depicting the Madonna, to Jeremy Scott using Jesus iconography on his designs, so there will be plenty of options for sure.
2. Guests get to see the exhibition before anyone else Yup, once they’ve done posing up a storm on the red carpet, Kim Kardashian, JLo and co head inside to examine the exhibits. You can just picture the two of them in conversation about the qualities of traditional seaming versus ultrasonic welding, can’t you?
3. Who will host the Met Gala 2018? Anna Wintour has been the chair of the event since 1995, but each year she picks a special consultant to help her rally donations, finesse the theme and generally bring even greater awareness to the already quite visible proceedings. For 2018, she has picked co-hosts that will rise to the occasion, namely: Amal Clooney, Rihanna, and Donatella Versace.
